Florence Dresser – A Chest of Drawers Makeover

Florence Dresser 2.

It’s no secret I like a bit of colour, but I had a real dilemma with these drawers… paint with my heart or my head? I’d had in mind a gorgeous emerald green colour (enter Annie Sloan Florence) but I started to have doubts, thinking that given I wanted to sell them I might be better painting them a more neutral colour. As I’m inclined to do I shared the dilemma on Facebook and my lovely friends there resoundingly told me to paint with my heart. So I did.

I’m a blue / green girl, and I was in love as soon as I started painting. It just looks so glamourous! I’ve seen the colour in homewares (particularly bed linen) of late, so I decided I was right on trend (wonders never cease) and I’d just go with it. And then I started to imagine all the ways this colour could work – in a jungle themed bedroom…. in a bright and cheerful family room… as an accent colour in a monochrome master bedroom… in a real boho home with gorgeous colour… As I painted I became more and more confident.

The black glass knobs from Zakkia are beautiful (no, it’s not a sponsored post 😉 ) and they have great customer service. They add a much more modern vibe that the originals. And can I tell you – I bought the globe this week for $10!!! I couldn’t believe it when I saw it at The Salvos; I almost ran down the walkway to grab it. It’s definitely a keeper. I also picked up the little rocking bird from Pillowtalk… I’d seen it a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t wait to go back for him. Too cute 🙂

I couldn’t end this post without saying thank you to all the lovely people who commented on my last post, who sent messages and who were just generally amazingly supportive. THANK YOU. I was on edge when I clicked publish, and then the comments came in and I was just so relieved. I’d been honest and you guys were kind, gentle and wonderful. THANK YOU.

    Hi Catherine
Me again 🙂 I LOVE this piece of furniture!
How do you think this would go in a babies room?
Is it too high to put a change mat on top?

Let me know what you think xo

Hi Louise – Thank you, I love it too. It’s such a great colour! It would be such a statement piece for a babies room, beautiful jewel colours would be lovely! I don’t think it’s too high for a change mat, but if you’d like to check and see you’re welcome to come and have a look. Just email me at catherine@paisleyvintage.com.au
